Computer science education cannot make anybody an expert programmer any more than studying brushes and pigment can make somebody an expert painter. Any fool can write code that a computer can understand. Good programmers write code that humans can understand. “Real programmers can write assembly code in any language.” Good programmers use their brains, but good guidelines save us having to think out every case. Walking on water and developing software from a specification are easy if both are frozen.“Any program is only as good as it is useful.” The greatest risk we face in software development is that of overestimating our own knowledge.
